All workshops, except for one-on-one workshops, require at least two bookings to go ahead.

Step into the mysterious world of poisonous plants and learn how to paint beautiful and deadly botanicals in this beginner-friendly watercolour workshop. In this three-hour class, you’ll be guided through a series of botanical studies, exploring how watercolour can be used to create delicate petals, rich foliage, translucent layers, and intricate natural details. Whether you’ve never picked up a brush before or want to build your confidence with botanical watercolour, this workshop will give you the skills to create your own hauntingly beautiful artwork. You’ll begin with guided exercises exploring:

  • Creating transparent layers of colour

  • Controlling water and pigment for delicate botanical details

  • Building light, shadow, and dimension

  • Creating soft gradients and natural colour variations

  • Using wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques

Once you feel comfortable with the techniques, you’ll move into four studies inspired by some of nature’s most poisonous plants and fungi. You’ll learn how to:

  • Paint the deep purple flowers and dark berries of Deadly Nightshade (Belladonna)

  • Create the rich evergreen foliage and distinctive red berries of English Yew

  • Paint the dramatic leaves and distinctive veining of Elephant Ear

  • Capture the recognisable cap, stem, and texture of the Death Cap mushroom

IMPORTANT: For the 18th of October it is only a two hour class instead of three so you will only be learning the death cap mushroom & English Yew. The other dates follow the three hour layout above.

In the final portion of the class, you’ll put your new skills to the test with a self-led botanical artwork. Using the techniques and elements you’ve learned throughout the workshop, you’ll create your own deadly botanical scene — whether that’s a mysterious poison garden, a collection of poisonous plants, a dark forest floor, or something entirely your own. You’ll have the freedom to combine the botanical elements however you like and add your own foliage, flowers, fungi, and atmospheric details, making your final artwork uniquely yours.
